WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

Painted ocean is a newly-formed organisation, comprising a small group of artists, sailors, adventures and alternative thinkers. We intend to start running art events and courses aboard large semi-traditional sailing vessels, offering an onboard arty environment, studio facilities and both art and water sports tuition. This will be combined with a carefully-planned Adventure Sports packed global itineraries.

Our focus is to generate fresh creativity in people through the experiences of sea travel and the very different perspective on the world and local cultures this inspires. Resident artists, craftsmen and professional yachts-people will make up your fellow crew members, with the sole aim of cultivating a fun, vibrant, animated and stimulating environment, both aboard boat and for excursions ashore.

At present we have our eyes peeled for a suitable charter vessel that we can organise a number of events in conjunction with. However, in the long term and through the anticipated success of these programs, we intend to raise the funds to buy and fit out a large, dedicated ocean-going sailing vessel. On board this vessel we intend to have more permanent and fairly extensive studio facilities. We will also then be able to take on more serious global trips of exploration and adventure, calling at little-visited and other wise difficult- to-reach locations.

Each large trip will have themes, varying according to region. The main principle will be to draw attention to under-heralded regional splendour and/or plights, such as oceanic environment and the destructive effect of mass tourism, whilst at the same time giving an alternative slant on local art and music. Highly-publicised, on-board exhibitions at various ports on route will provide an artistic and environmental outlet.
